SEO copywriting service: what you actually buy in 2026

24. September 20268 min readby Okapi Digital

In short: An SEO copywriting service sells you a sequence more than it sells you words. First keyword research, which decides what the page should rank for at all. Then a structure with one primary keyword, question-style subheadings and an opening paragraph that Google and ChatGPT can quote directly. Then the copy itself: at Okapi Digital in Frankfurt we draft with AI tools and edit every line by hand. And finally a check that every target keyword still sits where it belongs. Skip any of those steps and you get an essay instead of a page that brings enquiries.

The market for copy has been hard to read since 2023. A page costs anything from a few euros to several hundred, and from the outside both offers look identical: a file with headings and paragraphs. The difference sits in what happens before and after the writing. This article shows you what to check before you commission anything, and how to tell after 90 days whether the money did any work.

What do you actually get from an SEO copywriting service?

A finished page is more than the body copy. The delivery should include:

  • One primary keyword and four to eight secondary terms for that specific page, with search volume and competition data.
  • A page title and meta description inside Google's length limits: title up to 60 characters, description 150 to 160.
  • A heading structure with one H1, then H2s and H3s in a hierarchy that makes sense even without the body text.
  • Internal links to the right service pages and to related articles.
  • Alt text for the images.
  • An FAQ block with four to six real questions, ready to be marked up as FAQ schema.

Anyone delivering only body copy is delivering half the job. Ask for this list before you commission. The answer tells you more about quality than any writing sample.

Why does keyword research come before the first sentence?

Without research you are writing on a hunch, and hunches are usually wrong, because companies name their services differently from the way customers search for them. A law firm writes "employment law mandate management"; people type "unfair dismissal solicitor Frankfurt". Both mean the same thing, and only one of them gets typed.

Usable research gives you three numbers: search volume, meaning how often the term is searched per month, difficulty, meaning how strong page one already is, and intent, meaning whether the searcher wants to learn, compare or buy. Only then can you decide whether a topic deserves its own page.

For most small and mid-size businesses the pattern holds: mid-volume, low-competition terms bring enquiries faster than the big head terms. We covered how that selection works in detail in our guide to SEO basics for small businesses.

How should an SEO page be structured in 2026?

Structure has shifted over the past two years, because AI systems now read alongside Google. Four rules carry most of the effect.

One primary keyword per page. It belongs in the H1, the page title, the meta description, the first paragraph and at least one H2. Optimising two pages for the same term forces Google into a decision that rarely goes your way.

Questions as subheadings. "What does a dental implant cost?" works better than "Prices". It matches what people type and say, and it lets the section be lifted out as a standalone answer.

A quotable opening. The first two or three sentences answer the heading's question completely, assuming no prior context. That paragraph is exactly what ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overview take when they use your page as a source. What else matters there, including structured data, consistent company details and mentions on other sites, is covered in our article on getting found in ChatGPT and Gemini.

Numbers in tables. Prices, timelines, comparisons. Search engines and AI systems pull tables into answers more often than prose, and a table forces the copy to be precise.

What separates usable copy from filler?

Filler is easy to spot once you know what to look for. Five questions do the job:

  1. Does it say anything only your company could say? Prices, processes, deadlines, mistakes you see in practice, regional detail. Copy that could sit on a competitor's site unchanged does not deserve its own URL.
  2. Is the title question answered in the first paragraph? If the opening only promises an answer further down, the page is worthless for AI answers.
  3. Are there concrete numbers? "Fast" is not a figure. "5 to 10 working days" is.
  4. Does the keyword repeat unnaturally? Keyword stuffing stopped working more than a decade ago and reads badly.
  5. Does the reader know what to do at the end? A page without a clear next step produces traffic and no enquiries.

The most common buying mistake is paying per word. It rewards length, and length is not a ranking factor. A page of 900 precise words beats a padded 2,000 more often than not.

What role does AI play in the writing, and where does it stop?

Almost every agency now uses AI, and almost none of them says so. So here is our process in plain terms.

At Okapi Digital, AI tools handle research summaries, outline suggestions and the first draft. After that, every text goes through human editing. We check each number, price and example against the client's own sources, cut the phrasing that sounds like a machine, and add what a model cannot know. A keyword check runs last: every target keyword has to appear word for word in the title, the opening, one subheading and the meta fields, or the text goes back for another pass.

What AI does well: propose structure, generate variants, keep up the pace, work in two languages at once.

What AI cannot do: know your price list, know your customers, judge which claim you can legally defend, or read how your industry actually behaves in Frankfurt. That is where it is decided whether copy merely exists or actually sells.

If a provider claims to use no AI at all, ask them to explain how. If a provider quotes prices only achievable with unedited drafts, that is exactly what you will receive.

How do you brief a copywriter properly?

The better the brief, the fewer revision rounds. Before you hire an SEO copywriter, settle these six inputs:

InputExample
Target page and purposeService page, needs to produce form enquiries
AudiencePractice owners, 35–60, decide on their own, short on time
What the reader should do nextBook a discovery call
Your hard factsPrices, timelines, processes, qualifications, region
What you must not claimCure promises, guarantees, competitor comparisons
ToneTwo examples of writing you like

Keyword research does not belong in the brief, because it is part of the service. If a provider expects you to supply the keywords, they are selling you typing instead of SEO.

The point where most projects stall is the hard facts. Anyone buying SEO content writing needs to invest one hour, once, writing down prices, processes and the questions customers really ask. That hour pays into every page that follows.

What does an SEO copywriting service cost?

The market uses three billing models: per word, per page and monthly retainer. Per word is the weakest of the three, because it pays for length instead of effect. Per page suits one-off projects, for example when you need a website copywriting service for a handful of pages. A monthly retainer makes sense once content is meant to appear regularly, because research, internal linking and reporting then run together.

Our prices at Okapi Digital:

PackagePriceWhat you get in writing

The honest framing on SEO copywriter cost: a single page rarely changes anything. Visibility comes from a group of connected pages that link to each other. So budget for six to twelve months rather than for one article.

How do you judge the result after 90 days?

Three months is enough to tell whether the direction is right. Check Google Search Console, in this order:

  • Impressions for the target page. Rising impressions mean the page is being found. Flat at zero means the keyword choice is wrong or the page is not indexed.
  • Average position for the primary keyword. Moving from position 60 to 25 is a good sign even with no clicks yet. Clicks start arriving inside the top 10.
  • Clicks and click-through rate. Plenty of impressions and no clicks almost always means a weak page title or meta description. That is a ten-minute fix.
  • Enquiries. The only number that counts at year end. Ask new customers how they found you and write it down.
  • Mentions in AI answers. Put the questions your pages answer to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Who gets named?

What you should not expect after 90 days: position one for a competitive term. Honest SEO usually needs three to six months for that, longer in crowded markets. Anyone guaranteeing faster is selling you a risk.

Conclusion

Good SEO copy comes out of four steps: research, structure, drafting, checking. AI speeds up the third step and replaces none of the other three. When you buy an SEO copywriting service, ask about exactly those four steps, insist on the full delivery including meta fields and internal links, and measure after 90 days using impressions, positions and enquiries.
